Mother Mary Lee Gadson

God needed another flower in the garden on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, and decided to call Sister Mary Lee Clark Garson home. Mary Lee Clark Gadson, 90, of Holly Hill, South Carolina, transitioned from this life peacefully at MUSC Health Orangeburg after a extended illness. Mary Lee was born in Orangeburg County on May 10, 1933, to the late Raymond (Lottie) and Leila Keller Clark.

Mary Lee attended the public schools of Orangeburg County. She was a faithful member of Greater Target A.M.E Church. She served faithfully on the Steward Board, Stewardess Board #6, Senior Usher Board, and Women's Missionary Society. Mary Lee loved cooking for others, laughing and singing. Her favorite songs were "Over Yonder Where Jesus Is" and "Come Along My Friend". She worked for others but lived her life as a child of God. If you truly knew her, you know she loved everyone. Mary Lee worked for the late Dr. Virgil Harvey and Sandra Harvey. She loved and helped raised their children, Sharon and Dan Harvey.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Leroy Gadson, one grandson, Michael Givens, and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Jefferson.

She leaves to cherish her memory: seven devoted and loving daughters, Ineather (Elijah) Thompson of Holly Hill, SC, Diana (Paul) Wright of Piscataway, New Jersey, Bessie Mae Givens of Charleston, SC, Mashell (Gabriel) Capers, Minnie Johnson, Carol Gadson, Sharon Denise Bell all of Holly Hill, SC, and one loving son, Tyrone Gadson of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Elise (Rev. Sammie) Palmer and Mae Liza Smith, one daughter-in-law, Mariah Gadson of Holly Hill, SC; Godchildren: Travis Snell, Lillian Gavin Pringle, Irving Mack, Ida Daniels, Charles (Connie) Green, Jr., Marilyn Scrubb, Tyrone Sellers, and Corel Sweat. She was blessed with twenty-four grand-children that loved her: Nathaniel (Kia) Jefferson, Mary Lee Reaves, Loretta (Damonian) Gadson-Washington, Suzette (Timothy) Johnson, Sr., Frederick O'Neal (Valencia) Gadson, Stephen Givens, Sharese (Johnathan) McLean, Julanda (Troy) Wilson, Yolanda (Charles) Grant, Marquise (Knyja) Gadson, Correll Gadson, Mario Givens, Matthew Givens, Latavia (Brian) Park, Elijah (Sharkia) Thompson, Shontovia Capers, Krystal Capers, Celsey Dinkins, Ebony Johnson, Gabriel Capers, Keonia Johnson, Daniel Deondre Bell, and Courtney Gadson; a cousin reared in the home, James Keller, thirty-two great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren, devoted nieces and nephews, four special friends Joyce Warren, Lillie Ruth James, Annabell Summerson, and Lillie B. Williams; other relatives and friends.
