Laverne Moorer, affectionately known as “Gussie,” transitioned into eternal life on Thursday, March 14, 2024. She was born in Providence, SC, to Annie Lee Void and Willie “Dump” Keitt. Laverne was adopted by her stepfather, Henry L. Moorer, Sr.
She attended the Lodge Hall School in Vance, South Carolina. She moved to New York at a young age, where she discovered her passion for pressing and cleaning clothes while working at a dry cleaner. She loved to cruise, was the “glam girl” among the Moorer sisters, and had a flair for dressing up. Her love for pocketbooks, red lipstick, and blush was well-known. She was the go-to person to make the potato salad at family gatherings, as hers was the best. She retired from Ambler Industries, Inc. of Orangeburg, SC.
Laverne was a faithful member of Rock Hill A.M.E. Church. Her service extended to several boards and auxiliaries of the church, including The Young Matrons, I. Pringle Choir, Lay Organization, Usher Board, and the Angelic Gospel Choir. Her devotion and contributions to the church were immense, and she will be deeply missed by her church family.
Laverne was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Alma Moorer and Jannie Mae Keitt, and brothers, Gerald Moorer and Willie Lee Keitt.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories: her sons, Marvin Moorer of Duncan, SC, and Eric (Virginia Kaye) Moorer, of Greenville, SC; brothers, William (Betty) Moorer and Leon (Carol) Moorer of Connecticut; Rayfort (Stephanie) Moorer, Henry Moorer, Jr.; and Jerry (Karren) Keitt of Orangeburg, SC.
