Wilbur Augusta Washington was born Wednesday, August 12, 1942, the beloved son of the late Zack Washington and Mary Washington Watkins in Orangeburg County. He peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Gordon's Hospice House in Statesville, NC with the love and support of his family by his side
Wilbur attended the Orangeburg County public school system. After his schooling, he started employment with the Holly Hill lumber company and later enjoyed life as a truck driver for over fifty years.
Wilbur was a loyal member of True Faith Baptist Church in Eutawville, SC where he served faithfully for many years as a Deacon.
He was loved by many and was a great father, grandfather, brother and friend. Wilbur resided in Holly Hill, SC for the majority of his life where he raised his children and established life-long friendships in the community but spent his final years in Statesville, NC. Those who knew and loved him, knew that he was a sharp dresser and had a passion for cars. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, Wilber was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Watkins Troutman and Betty Robinson Walker and best friend, Hildy "Mutter" Summers.
Those left to cherish his memories are: two sons, Rev. Wilber (Sandra) Washington of Columbia, SC and Jasper (Priscilla) James of Holly Hill, SC; two daughters, Ivory (Mack) Blackwell of Statesville, NC and Wanda Gadson of Holly Hill, SC; nine grandchildren, Warnisha Fogle, Warren Gadson, Sontia Washington, Yaunteia Blackwell, Zaakeia Blackwell, Torian Gadson, Jasper Holman, Wildarius (Dayseanna) Washington, and Pindaruius Washington; fifteen great-grandchildren, four siblings, Margaret Adams of NC, Willie Mae Watkins of NY, Alberta Watkins and Jimmy (Betty) Watkins of SC; a special friend, Annie B Summers of Holly Hill, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
