Brother Timothy Elijah Ravenell was born to the late Rev. Henry & Victoria Mae Ross Ravenell on February 6, 1953.
"Tim" grew up on Ravenell Hill in Cross, South Carolina, and proudly graduated from Cross High School, Class of 1972. He continued his education at Voorhees University in Denmark, SC, where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration. His commitment to learning led him to further studies at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC, and Cummins Theological Seminary in Summerville, SC.
Throughout his working years, Tim held a variety of positions, including roles at Montgomery Ward and McDougal & Lieber Correctional Facilities, among others. However, it was at the Robert Bosch Corporation where he truly found his professional home. He dedicated 17 years of service there before retiring — reluctantly, as he genuinely loved the work and the people he served alongside.
In his early years, Tim became a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Later in life, he moved his membership to Immanuel R.E. Church, where his walk with the Lord deepened in a profound and meaningful way. He served faithfully as an active and devoted member of the congregation. Tim gave of himself in many roles: Junior Warden, Senior Choir Member, Lay Reader, Sexton, and the position that brought him the greatest joy, Sunday School Teacher. In each role, he served with humility, dedication, and a genuine love for God and His people.
In his spare time, Tim found joy in the simple pleasures of life — hunting, fishing, and tending his garden, where he took pride in watching things grow. He was also an avid sports fan who loved both football and baseball. His favorite team, without question, was the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On June 12, 1975, Tim married the beautiful Deloise L. Gaines, the love of his life. Their union was blessed with three children: Dwayne, Devin, and Malik. In addition to their own, they lovingly opened their hearts and home to two Godchildren, Khaliya and Xavier Thomas, whom they helped nurture and raise as their own.
Tim transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC, after a long and valiant fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Surrounded by the love of his beautiful family, he peacefully released this earthly life and stepped into eternal rest.
In addition to his parents, Timothy was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Destin Gavin; five brothers, Isaac, Robert, Jacob, Walter Sr., and Richard; and two sisters, Catherine S. Ravenell and Margaret King.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of fifty (50) years, Deloise G. Ravenell; his children, Dwayne (Tahirah) of Raeford, NC, Malik of Rdgeville, SC and Devin (Marveece) Gavin of Cross, SC; and seven cherished grandchildren: Elijah, Daniah, Trinity, Daijah, Demi, Zy'aire and Markay'la, His four (4) sisters: Geraldine Smith, Ruth (Burnett) Vanish, Reve Mae Liza Grant, and Mary Haynes; his brother; Henry (Linda) Ravenell, Jr; two special loved ones reared in the home, Melanie Ravenell and Angelo (Queen) Ravenell; five sister-in-love, Pearl Ravenell, Alma Linda Ravenell, Annie Mae Ravenell, Annette (Harry) Middleton, and Sandra Brown; one brother-in-love, William Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
