Sanders Bailey Jr., lovingly known to his family and friends as "Junior Boy" was born on March 21, 1954, in Holly Hill, South Carolina, to the late Louise Ethel Capers Bailey and Sanders Bailey Sr. His parents were united in marriage for over 50 years and raised eight children together.
Sanders was raised in Holly Hill, where he attended Holly Hill Elementary School through 8th grade. He went on to attend Roberts High School, where he participated in track and field, graduating with the Class of 1972.
Shortly after graduation, Sanders moved from Holly Hill to Jersey City, New Jersey. There he began working for Hudson Sanitation, remaining with the company until his first retirement. In 1989, he began a second career with Bergen Bus Company, where he worked faithfully until retiring again in 2011.
Between 1975 and 1983, "Junior Boy" became the proud father of six children. During this time, he also nurtured a deep, God fearing relationship with the Lord. He was a devoted member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Jersey City, where he served on the Usher Board.
In 1986, while continuing to serve in God's name, Junior met his beloved wife, Ms. Ann Bennett. The couple dated and were married in 1991 at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E Church, surrounded by family and close friends. Together, they shared two children and lovingly raised a bonus son.
Throughout the years, Sanders played a meaningful role in the Jersey City community. He found great joy in hosting gatherings for family and friends to enjoy sports together. A dedicated father, he remained a guiding presence in the lives of all of his children. He also had a passion for collecting and driving cars, a hobby that brought him immense pride. One of his greatest joys was returning to his hometown of Holly Hill to visit his parents (both now deceased), as well as his extended family and lifelong friends.
On September 10, 2025, Sanders Bailey Jr. took his final ride home to be with the Lord.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife: Mrs. Ann Bailey; His eight children--Melissa Horne, Sandra Alston, Sanders Alston, George Alston, Samuel Horne, Olivia Horne, Jaymark Bailey, and Tyreka Bailey; His eight siblings-- Joanne Howard (Johnny), Jerome Bailey (Geraldine), Caroline Bailey, Barbara Bailey Brooks (Malathia), Julia Bailey, Willa Bailey (David), and Alice Bailey; Fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; His loving mother-in-law, six brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
