Ruth Edith Myers-Hampton, affectionally known as Edie, was born on July 22,1950, to the late Samuel Myers Sr. and late Vivian Inez parson-Myers. On October 4, 2025, at 8:41 AM. God called her home, and she entered her new, pain-free body that the Lord had been preparing for her. The gates of eternity swung open to welcome her home.
She was educated in Berkeley County School System in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, where she earned the nickname "Bread." She graduated from Berkeley County Training Highschool in 1969. Edie relocated to Brooklyn, New York, Edie joined The Church of the Open Door under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Mark V.C Taylor. She publicly confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and dedicated her life to His service.
Edie possessed a flair for hair styling which led her to pursue her license in Cosmetology from Wilford Academy. She wore many hats. She was employed as a telephone operator with the the New York Telephone Company for many years. Utilizing her Cosmetology license, she also worked as a cosmetologist for A&S Department Store, possessing a strong passion for people, and a nurturing spirit for children. Edie began a career as a freelance childcare provider. Through her work, she made countless children feel loved and was instrumental in forming life-long bonds with the many families who cherished her.
Edie met the love of her life, Samuel Harrington Hampton lll. They married on May 10th,1974. Their union was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, who was the apple of their eyes, Samantha Inez Hampton, born in April 1976.
She was blessed with seven brothers and five sisters, who preceded her in death: James, David, Thomas, Samuel Jr., Paul, Silas Myers, Samuel Parson, Rosemary Huger, Delores Sass, Emily Myers, Carol Gray, and Sadie Williams.
Edie leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: her devoted husband, Samuel H. Hampton, lll, of the home; her beloved daughter, Samantha Inez Hampton of Brooklyn ,New York; Three loving sisters: Marie M. Ford, Velma Douglass, and Lundeen M. Graham; nine sisters-in-law: Daisy B. Myers, Virginia Myers, Carolyn Myers, Barbara Hampton, Ireen Taylor, Alison Hampton, Shirley Hampton, and Shirley L. Jennings; and four brothers-in-law: Robert Hampton, Robert Douglass, Rev. Dr. Alfred Williams, and Marvin B. Gray. She is also survived by two aunts: Lillie Mae Jenkins, and Hazel Parson-Starks.
Edie was affectionally known as Auntie Grandma to Sudan, Sadiah, Sade, and Sabril. She will also forever be remembered as Auntie Eddie, to a host of nieces and nephews that she loved with all her heart. Edie loved her family, and she loved her friends who became her extended family. She will be missed by all the children she raised at 346 East 29th Street, in Brooklyn, New York. She left behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion. Her moto was, "Don't Tell Me Bye; Say, See You Later."
