Roger Martin was born on November 15, 1944, in Holly Hill, South Carolina. He was the only child of Eddie “Mink” Martin and Willie Mae Hunt Martin. Roger attended first grade in Holly Hill before relocating with his parents to Brooklyn, New York, where he continued his education. After graduating from high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. Upon completing his tour of duty, Roger lived in New York and was employed by the New York Transit Police. After retiring from the Transit Police, Roger returned home to Holly Hill, South Carolina.
In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his love, Lourine McMillian, fishing and listening to jazz music. He also reconnected with his home church, Greater Target AME Church, where he served faithfully as a trustee and a member of the Sons of Allen until his passing. Roger was preceded in death by his firstborn, Kim Martin, and his parents, Eddie and Willie Mae Hunt Martin.
He is forever cherished by his daughters: Shenna Boone, Sherena Boone, and India (Martin) Simmons, son-in-law Irving Simmons; four grandchildren: Christiana Martin, Nia Martin, Dwight Boone and Shania Simmons; two great-grandchildren: Michelle Brown and Tristian Aziz; his special cousin and neighbor: Lucinda “Cindy” Etienne of Holly Hill, South Carolina; along with a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends. Roger will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
