Robert Cyrus, III Obituary

A Life of Faith, Family, and Dedication

Robert Cyrus Sr. III peacefully entered eternal rest on June 13, 2026.

Born in Florence, South Carolina, on June 23, 1938, Robert was the beloved son of the late Willie Cyrus Sr. and the late Hermenia Saunders Cyrus. Raised in a hardworking family, he learned early the values of faith, perseverance, honesty, and respect for others. His childhood was spent helping on the family farm, caring for livestock, and working in the cotton fields alongside his family.

Robert attended Wilson Senior High School in Florence, South Carolina, before beginning a life marked by dedication, hard work, and service. He later moved north, where he built a successful career in the printing industry and worked for The Washington Post.

One of Robert’s greatest passions was golf. His love for the game led him to Burning Tree Club, where he became a respected and admired caddie. Over an extraordinary 58-year career, Robert earned the trust and friendship of members, professional golfers, dignitaries, and Presidents of the United States. His knowledge of the game, professionalism, and warm personality made him a treasured member of the Burning Tree family.

On July 1, 1967, Robert married the love of his life, Ernestine Covington Cyrus. Their union was blessed with one son, Robert L. Cyrus IV, born June 7, 1970.

Robert was blessed with a devoted daughter-in-law, Iasia Cyrus, who lovingly cared for him and stood faithfully by his side until the very end. Her dedication, compassion, and unwavering support brought him comfort throughout his final days.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ernestine Covington Cyrus; his brother, Willie Cyrus Jr.; and his sister, Wilhelmina Cyrus.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving son, Robert L. Cyrus IV, and daughter-in-law, Iasia Cyrus; his sister-in-law, Betty Lloyd of Long Island, New York; his special goddaughter, Wanda Smith of Baltimore, Maryland; his special godson, Rashad Devaugh of McColl, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.

Robert was known for his quiet strength, humility, wisdom, and kindness. He believed in treating others with respect, working hard, and living a life of integrity. Whether on the golf course, with family, or among friends, he inspired those around him through his actions and example.

Though he is no longer with us physically, Robert’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His faith, love, laughter, and unwavering spirit will never be forgotten.
