Robert Lee Asberry Sr., the son of the late James and Mary Jane Asbury, was born on May 18, 1946 in Vance, SC. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 28, 2022.
He was a member of Rock Hill AME Church and served as a dedicated Usher on the Usher Board for many years. He began working as a horse jockey for Branchdale Horse Track and then transitioned to become a bus/truck driver and continued to drive for more than 30 years. He started driving trucks and then moved on to driving buses. He fell in love with being a bus driver and this became his passion. He drove for Vance CB Brothers, B L Bus Lines and Hop Tours untjl retirement. He served as a loyal member of the Brothers of Vance Social Club for many years.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sylvia Asberry, his son, Jerome Asberry, and his brother James Asbury Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving wife of 55 years, Maude Asberry of the home, Son, Robert Lee (Evangeline Thompson) Asberry Jr. of Vance, SC, Daughter-in law, Pearl Asberry of Elloree, SC Siblings; Irving (Theresa) Asbury of Eutawville, SC, Raymond (Dorothy) Asbury of Vance, SC, William Asbury, Lula Mae King, and Barbara Ann Asbury, all of Orangeburg, SC, and Nathaniel Asbury of Charlotte, NC. Brother In Laws: Johnny (Catherine) Williams and Willie L. (Johnnie Mae) Williams of Vance, SC, Reedy (Diedre Parker) Williams of Columbia, SC: Sister in Laws: Louise (Darnell Gaillard) Williams of Vance, SC and Marie Wright of Atlanta, GA. Grandchildren: Courtney (Jontrell) Wright of Holly Hill, SC, Tevin (Novadney) Asberry and Tyrie Asberry of Virginia Beach, VA, Kendrell (Bria) Turner Santee, SC, Antonio (Tyneshia) Turner, Dyneshia Asberry, Sherie Asberry and Malcolm Asberry of Elloree, SC.
