Powell "Paul" Young, Sr.

Mr. Powell (Paul) Young, Sr. was born to Rev. Herbert and Bernice (Jones) Young on June 2, 1950. He received his wings on May 5, 2021 at Trident Medical Center with his wife by his side. Paul as he was known by many attended schools in Holly Hill. Retired from Coastal Center in October 2020. Powell was a member of New Way Church House Ministry, where he served on the usher’s board and the men’s fellowship. He was married to Joyce Young for 43 years. Paul loved to travel, listen to R & B music, dance and “cut the fool” with everyone. Whenever he was around there was never a dull moment. He enjoyed watching football and his shoot “em” ups. But most of all he loved his family. His great-grands gave him his bragging rights. They were the apple of his eyes.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his son, James Benjamin; two sisters, Rose Taste and Lurine Pinckney; one brother, Leni Young.

Left to cherish his memories: His loving and devoted wife, Joyce Young of the home; four daughters, Janelle (Blake) Gaines of Loganville, GA, Cherryee Williams of Boston, MA, Angela Williams of the home, Vickie Hardemon (Shawn) of Baltimore, MD; three sons, Steve Williams (Laninia) of Moncks Corner, SC, Kent (Tomeka) Young of Savanah, GA, Powell (Dorothy) Young, Jr. of Waltham, MA; 33 grandchildren, 11 great-grand children, a very special goddaughter, Anastasia White; four sisters, Lula Williams, Betty (Barbara Ann) of Holly Hill, SC, Retha Belle Pringle of Columbia, SC, Verna Gilliard Jackson of Boston, MA; four brothers, Eli Young, James Young, Nathaniel Young all of Holly Hill, SC, Herbert Young of Boston, MA; two sisters-in law, Ruthie Mae Young of Boston, MA, Mamie Young of Holly Hill, SC; two brothers-in law, John Jackson of Boston MA, James Henry of Cambridge, MA, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. He was loved and will be truly missed.
