Norma Chambers Obituary

Norma I. King was born in the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines on May 4th, 1934. She was the fifth of six children. Four of which have preceded her in death. Her youngest brother still resides in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. They are the children of Ilka Jack and Charles King.

Norma always had a fascination with number, so she excelled at math. Shortly after Graduating, she worked in a bank on the Island. She left this job to work at the Banana Association as a cashier and bookkeeper. She really enjoyed this job. They exported Bananas to many parts of the world.

Norma was an outgoing, fun, loving lady. She was the life of the party and a flashy meticulous dresser. She was very much a perfectionist in many areas of her life and expected the same from those closest to her. She worked hard to achieve the finer things in life. She was also very caring and generous to all types of people, Regardless of their color, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. She was loved and admired by many.

Norma Married her childhood sweetheart Ronald Chambers in 1962. They were both fond of deep-sea diving and swimming. Unfortunately, they separated after a few years, but did produce two children Michele and Andre during their time together.

In 1968 Norma left the Islands and Relocated to New York. She left her children with their Grandmother and went in search of better work opportunities. Shortly after arriving to New York, she acquired work with CITI Bank, and she remained there until retirement. She did retrieve her children in 1973. While sharing living space with her sister Beryl. Her estranged husband preceded her in death in 1984. Even thought they had been separated for so many years Norma was very heavy hearted by his death.

Norma is greatly missed by her family and friends. She leaves behind her last living sibling Maurice; her children: Michele, Andre, and their spouses Alfonso and Sherly, her grandchildren; Aaron, Arielle, Aleena, Dayna, Mia, and Laurence her great-grandchildren; Noah and Adonis Nieces and Nephews; Denise, Gyakyl, Kyerewah, Marcia, Giselle, Camile, Yolanda, Kirt, Aiesha, Maurice Jr. Marissa and their families.
