Mother Rose Laura H. J. Clinton affectionately known as “Momma Rose” was born to the late Willie & Rebecca Pettigrew High.
Momma Rose entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
Momma Rose grew up and attended school in Orangeburg County. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Samuel “Poncie” Jenkins to this union four children were born.
Momma Rose later married the Late John L. Clinton. The blend welcomed 10 more children.
Momma Rose was preceded in death by her parents: Willie and Rebecca Pettigrew High; her siblings: Lucy Taste Morton, Mae Bell Pinckney, Rose Ann Johnson, Eunice Pinckney, Elnora King, Lucious High, Daniel High, Rosa Lee Washington, Lizzie Ladson, George Sellers, and Rebecca Jamison; her children: Caroline Jenkins, George Jenkins, Calvin Jenkins, John H. Clinton Jr., Rufus Clinton, Georgie Clinton and Alfred Clinton. She was the last survivor of the twelve siblings.
Things she liked to do:
Momma Rose was a faithful member of the St. James Baptist Church where she served as usher for many years. Presently she was the mother and oldest member of the church. She loved to worship, sing and cook. Momma Rose had a passion for caring for children.
Momma Rose leaves to cherish her fond memories, her children: Rebecca Wright, Stephen (Dorothy) Clinton, Pete Clinton & daughter in law, and Deloris (late John H) Clinton all of Eutawville, SC; Lizzie (Paul) Hall of Jersey City, New Jersey, Mildred Clinton of Rochester, NY, and Paul (Ruth) Milton of Eutawville; two special granddaughters that helped care for her through her final days: MonaLisa R. Wright of Eutawville, SC and Lakeechia Y. Wright of Summerton, SC; her great-granddaughter who was also her aide JazzJuan Wright; an extended care giver, Joseph Wright, Sr.; three special friends: Mamie Lee Ellis, Cobell Washington, and Ella Mae Oliver; thirty grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, other family members and friends.
