Mrs. Margaret Heyward Corbett departed this earthly life to enter a new home of eternal rest and peace on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Marg, as she was affectionately known, was one of ten siblings born to the late William “Bill” and Emma Claire Heyward on April 4, 1935.
As a young woman, Margaret worshipped at Target AME Church. She was educated in the Orangeburg County Public Schools where she graduated from Roberts High School in Holly Hill, South Carolina.
After high school, she moved to New York and was joined in holy matrimony to Wylie Corbett. She was employed as a live-in nanny. She returned to South Carolina and was employed at Holly Hill Elementary where she worked for nine years before she retired.
Margaret served in various capacities at church: Stewardess Board #6, Women’s Missionary Society and the Senior Angelic Choir. She was also a member of the Elite Chapter #228 Order of the Eastern Star.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her brother, Charlie (Lillie Ann) Heyward, of Holly Hill, SC. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Delores Heyward, of Silver Springs, MD., a special friend, Mr. Julius P. Gathers, Sr., a host of nieces, nephews,
grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends.
