Mother Joan Johnson Brown was the daughter of the late Bennie Johnson, Sr. and the late Celia Fergerson Johnson. She was born on May 22, 1942 in Orangeburg County. She entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Tuesday morning, January 17, 2023 after an extended illness.
Joan was a life long member of the Greater Target AME Church where she served faithfully with several auxiliaries until her health failed.
She was educated in the Holly Hill School System but graduated from Jenkins Hill in Harleyville, SC. She worked for several companies as a seamstress until her retirement.
Joan was married on September 9, 1965 to the late Russell Brown.
Mother Joan was preceded in death by her brothers: Robert Johnson, Bennie Will Collier, and Robert Benjamin.
Joan leaves to cherished her sweet memories to: her devoted daughter: Rose Johnson Maxwell of Holly Hill, SC; three grandchildren: Brian (Taia) Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Tyra (Denny) Middleton of Summerville, SC, and Gregory Wearing of Santee, SC; three great-grandchildren: Londyn & Landon Alston of Murrells Inlet, SC and Zoe Rose Johnson of Cross, SC; one sister: Beatrice Sweat of Holly Hill, SC; two brothers: Bennie (Minnie) Johnson, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY and John (Louvenia) Benjamin, Sr. of Holly Hill, SC: three sister-in-laws: Margie Johnson of Virginia, Gloria Collier of Bronx, NY and Maggie Benjamin of Hillcrest Heights, Maryland; two brother-in-laws: Benjamin (Viola) Brown of Charleston, SC and Thomas J. (Jennoris) Brown of Ridgeville; friend: Bessie (Wilson) White: classmate/BFF/sister: Ruthie Green; daughter/BFF/sister: Verneatha Holman and Lisa (O’Neal) Lambright: special cousin: Joe Ana (Leon) Freeman and Jannie Green; adopted sons: Demetrius Kirk, Melton (Wanda) Scott, Keith (Pam) Scott, and Kenneth (Renee) Scott; adopted grands: Heyward Gavin, Joshua Watson, Russell Stewart, Jr. Willette Sheard, Jennifer Smalls, Briana Townsend, Chantell Bell, and Brittney Benjamin; adopted great-grand: Teiana Asbury; Amedryis Hospice: Anne, Sheila, Sue, Bridget, and Carroll: nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
