Mother Charlotte Scott Obituary

Charlotte Elaine Mitchell Scott, affectionately known as Betty Ann, was born on October
11, 1947, in New York to the late Anna Bell Mitchell (Jenkins) and James Bennett Jr. She
entered eternal rest on October 13, 2024.
From an early age, Betty Ann's fearless spirit and radiant smile touched the hearts of
everyone she encountered. She spent her childhood in Moncks Corner, SC, attending
Berkeley County schools, surrounded by a loving family and friends who nurtured her
joyful nature. Despite her life’s normal beginnings, Betty Ann’s childhood took a
challenging turn when she fell ill with rheumatic fever. Although she survived, the illness
affected her speech and left her permanently deaf. Despite this, Betty Ann never let her
disability define her. Her strength, tenacity, and positivity became her trademarks as she
adjusted to life’s challenges with grace. Her notebook and pen became fixtures in her
purse to communicate with others and ensure that her voice was always heard.
In 1967 and 1970, Betty Ann was blessed with two wonderful children, whom she raised
with unconditional love and devotion. Though it was just the three of them for many years,
Betty Ann soon met Sam Scott, whom she married on May 20, 1972. Sam, a loving and
devoted husband, embraced her children as his own, and together they built a life filled
with love, laughter, and strong family values.
For over 25 years, Betty Ann was a devoted employee of Carolina Nurseries. Her
kindness, dedication, and unwavering work ethic touched the lives of everyone she
encountered. After retiring, she shifted her focus to what brought her the most
joy—showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with endless love and care,
creating precious memories that will be cherished forever.
Betty Ann’s faith was the heart of her life, providing comfort and guidance through every
challenge and triumph. As a young adult, she became a cherished and active member of
Bethlehem R.E. Church, where her faith blossomed and grew deeper. With the loving
support of her North Charleston church family, Betty Ann learned sign language, which
opened new ways for her to connect with others and share her enduring spirit. Her church
family embraced her fully, offering not only spiritual guidance but a deep sense of
belonging.
Our dear Betty Ann was preceded into Glory by her parents, Anna Bell Jenkins and James
Bennett Jr., devoted stepfather Joe Jenkins, husband Sam Scott, siblings Samuel Mitchell
and Michelle Smalls, aunt Evelena Jamison and a special cousin Carol “Fredia” Grant.
She is survived by her precious children, Mickles “Michael” Jenkins (Omega Brown) and
Jacqueline Mitchell (Michael Allen Sr); grandchildren Danisha Pressley, MJ “Solana”
Pressley, Carlos Pringle (Kayla Brown) and Michael Allen Jr (Ronniece Bennett); great-
grandchildren, De’Suan Myers, Raelynn Myers, Montrez Simmons, Quinnyia Allen, Taron
Maybank, Nariyah Allen, Majesty Allen, A’Honesti Allen; cherished sister, Dekoda Rivers
