Mother Catherine Lambright Elmore, affectionately known as “ Soogie” was born on June 4, 1923 to the late Jessie Lambright and the late Annie Shepherd Lambright. To their union ten children were born, eight have proceeded her in death, five brothers and three sisters. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 8, 2022.
Catherine attended the public school of Holly Hill. She joined Unity Church at a early age and was a member of the youth department.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Harrison “Harry” Elmore, who preceded her in death. To this union seven children were born, of which six preceded her in death. They were her four sons: Luther Elmore, Irving Elmore, Russell Elmore, Harrison Elmore Jr., and two daughters: Annie McBride and Harriet Chavis.
Catherine migrated to New York in 1944 where she worked for many soap opera and movie stars as a caterer and a domestic worker. While in New York she joined Gospel Temple of Manhattan, NY under the leadership of Bishop Brody.
Catherine was a God fearing woman who cherished her relationship with the Lord. She was known for her legacy of prayer. After raising all of her children up North, she decided to move back home to Holly Hill in 1971.
She reunited herself with her childhood church which is now Greater Unity AME Church and served on many church auxiliaries such as: The 60 Plus Board, Stewardess Board #1, The Mother’s Board, former member of the Unity Crowd Association, and the Missionary Society. She was an original member of the prayer band and a faithful Sunday school and bible study member. Mother Elmore was a faithful member until God saw fit to call her home.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: One devoted daughter; Shirley “Patsy” Elmore, and a special granddaughter that she raised as her own; Jennene “Geegee” Elmore both of the home; one sister, Ida K. Bennett and one sister in law, Beneva Lambright both of Holly Hill, SC; sixteen grands; one hundred twenty great -grands, fourteen great -great grands and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
