Caretha Nash Simmons, 95 of Cross, South Carolina, was born on August 19, 1926, to the late Mary and David Richburg of cross, South Carolina. Retha, as she was affectionately known, passed away on July 25, 2022.
As a young girl Retha spent her formative years in Cross. She later married the late William Nash, Jr. of Holly Hill, Sc. They relocated to Paterson, New Jersey where they made their home and raise three daughters. She was passionate about caring for her family and extended family. Her siblings always knew they could count on her. Retha and William often opened their home to whoever wanted or needed to come, everyone knew they would be welcomed with opened arms, unwavering love and support. Her convictions to help other made her a remarkable caregiver. Her compassion for others led her to attend a nursing program in New York, where she completed her studies in Infant and Geriatric Care. She used her nursing skills to bring healing and relief to many, while embracing her entrepreneurial spirit. After returning to South Carolina, she found love again and married the late Robert Simmons, of Branchville, SC. Her final move was to Cross, SC, where she lived a full life surrounded by amazing family that helped care for her.
Retha was a pillar in her church and community. Her early commitment to Christ led her to serve as a missionary for many years. She heeded the call of Christ and was ordained to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Retha could always be found serving and praising God. She served the Lord with all her heart.
Retha was preceded in death by her daughter Ruth Robinson (2022). She is survived by her daughters: Brenda Campbell of Goose Creek, SC and Pamela Davenport (Willie) of West Columbia, SC, Sister: Sherrie Aiken of Summerville, SC, Grandchildren: Anthony (Tammy) Robinson or Eugene, OR, Chris (Dana) Jones of Ludowici, GA, Steven Jones of Holly Hill, SC, Tonya Curtis, Outer Banks, NC, Laura Campbell of Charlotte, NC, Cosim Campbell of Fayetteville, NC, and Jessica (Brandon) Landrum of Charlotte, NC and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that loved her passionately.
