ANNA L. HUTCHINSON SHELTON
September 10, 1933 - May 2, 2025
With profound gratitude and reverence, we celebrate the life of Anna Hutchinson- Shelton. Anna Hutchinson- Shelton was born to George Hutchinson and Elizabeth Meyers-Hutchinson on September 10, 1933 in Moncks Corner South Carolina.
Mother Anna Shelton was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth M. Hutchinson; brother, William Dean Hutchinson and niece, Sorel Mazyck.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her only sister, Barbara L. Daniels (the late Richard); her Niece, Lady Wanda Wilder (Bishop Greg); Nephew, Douglas J. Dempsey, II (Gabriel); Nieces, Darlene Hutchinson and Jacqueline Baker; 5 great-nieces, Kyrah, Shevita, Vanessa, Safronia, Antoinette, Jordan and 4 great- nephews, Aundrea, Jelvonie, Bryce, Burundi Hutchinson; a host of cousins, and friends.
Anna met and married late in life, Deacon Arnold Shelton. No children were born to this union, but the number of individuals, including nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, who came into Anna’s life and viewed her as “Mother” far outweighs any number of children she could’ve ever given birth to. Anna was gifted with a nurturing spirit in which many here today can attest to. Anna was a true surrogate mother.
Anna was educated in the Berkeley County School System. She graduated from Berkeley Training High School in Moncks Corner, SC. Upon graduating, Anna left South Carolina and moved to Boston, Massachusetts. While there, Anna continued her education by attending Leary Laboratory where she received her degree as a Medical Technician. Most of her professional life, Anna was employed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as a Senior Medical Technician until the time she retired.
Upon moving to Boston to live with Auntie Mother Frye, a member of Refuge Church of Christ, Anna was introduced to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was baptized at Refuge Church of Christ and received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost.
Anna felt called to serve, and she answered with a heart full of devotion. Whether ministering to communities near and far, providing aid and guidance, or inspiring others through her tireless work and remained steadfast in her mission to uplift those in need. Her faith was a beacon of hope, her kindness a source of comfort, and her wisdom a testament to a life lived in service to others.
During Anna’s tenure in Refuge Church, she served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher. Anna taught her students domestically and abroad with much conviction and always through the unctioning of the Holy Ghost. Other church affiliations of Anna’s were: Licensed Missionary of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ; member of the Minister and Deacon Wives’ Guild; member of the Ushers’ Auxiliary. Anna was not only a phenomenal teacher, but was also a prolific orator.
Anna remained a faithful member of Refuge Church of Christ for well over 50 years until she relocated back to South Carolina after retirement.
Upon her return, she became a member of the Triumphant Church of C.O.O.L.J.C. founded by Elder Joseph and Mother Evelyn Crawford and Pastored by Elder Joseph Singleton.
Anna’s relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Ghost her Comforter was mirrored throughout her life. Anna’s spirit of humanity could be seen as she encountered countless people during her Christian walk. She mimicked the song, “If I can help somebody as I pass along…then my living shall not be in vain.”
Anna was an avid traveler. Her travels may have originated in South Carolina, extended into Massachusetts and various states within the United States, and beyond the borders of North America. Anna traveled extensively throughout her life in places such as:
South Africa – Soweto; Johannesburg; Swaziland
East Africa – Kenya
West Africa – Liberia; Sierra Leone (rode the ferry to Freetown); the Indian Ocean
Israel – Visited the Dead Sea; The Wailing Wall in Jerusalem; and was in the mix of the Ruins at Capernaum; sailed on the Sea of Galilee; witnessed olives being harvested
South America – Guyana
Anna attended a South Africa Crusade with Bishop T.D Jakes and also visited the Apartheid Museum while there. Alaska, Australia, Vancouver were some of Anna’s other impressive travels.
It is safe to say that out of all of Anna’s many travel experiences, she would say that “walking where Jesus Christ walked and being able to leave my footprints on the sand of time is the highlight of my travels.”
Anna Shelton was a devoted servant of God who dedicated her life to the church and missions. Throughout her journey, she embodied the true spirit of faith, compassion, and unwavering commitment to spreading God’s love.
She touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and dedication. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit and work will continue to inspire generations to come.
May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her work on earth has truly made a difference.
