Matthew "Bud" Gaines, Jr.

Matthew “Bud” Gaines Jr., son of Matthew Gaines Sr. and Elizabeth Jamison Gaines was born in New York on September 12, 1942 and departed this earthly life on March 15, 2021 at his home surrounded by love ones.

After graduating from Roberts High School in Holly Hill, Bud migrated to New York and stayed there for many years. He worked different jobs including driving the bus for the NYC Transport Authority.

He returned to South Carolina in 1974, which brought him back to Rock Hill AME Church. It was there that he met the love of his life, Annette Shaw. Bud and Annette married in February of 1975 to this union it created a blended family of six beautiful children.

Bud retired from Georgia Pacific and Stars Trans Trucking. In his spare time, he loved to fish, play cards, shoot pool, and watch basketball.

Waiting for Bud at his heavenly home: his parents, his loving wife, his grandson, Deandre Gaines, his sisters, Virginia Thompson, Mary Bookhardt, Patricia Gaines, and his brother, Milton Gaines.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his six beautiful children: Matthew Gaines III, Chandra Shaw, Christel Gaines, Kenneth Gaines, Kimberly (Cecil) Elmore and Kenya (Shawn) Randolph; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; one sister, Annette (John) Butler; brothers in-law: Jimmy, Frank, and Anthony Shaw; three Aunts: Mildred Joyner, Dorothy Cokley, and Carrie Jamison; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
