Marvin Nathaniel “Nubbie” Moorer
July 26, 1959 – August 19, 2025
Marvin Nathaniel Moorer, also known as “Nubbie” was born in Vance, SC, to the late Laverne Moorer and Edward Sweat. Marvin graduated from Holly Hill High School in 1978 and joined the United States Army immediately after high school. He later attended O.C. Tech, where he achieved a certificate in Welding. Nubbie decided to follow in his father’s footsteps by working along with his dad at Belmont Racetrack, taking care of horses. Later, he worked for the Wild Life Services of Santee State Park, Roper, Inc., as a welder, and then finished his career as a truck driver. Marvin loved playing basketball and baseball. He loved every New York team from the NY Knicks, the NY Yankees, and the NY Giants. Marvin had a very outgoing personality and was capable of bringing a smile to anyone he conversed with. He loved his oldies songs, loved to dress, and was very coordinated and organized before becoming sick and dealing with health complications.
He gained his wings and joined his father, Edward Sweat; mother, Laverne Moorer; and grandmother, Annie Lee Moorer on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. He leaves behind a grieving brother: Eric Nathan Moorer (Virginia) of Greenville, SC; siblings: Tiffany Sweat of Atlanta, GA, Kevin (Zelda) White of Queens NY, Karimah (Mike) Murphy of Atlanta, GA, and Rosalind Cata of Atlanta, GA; a host of living and deceased aunts and uncles from South Carolina, Florida, and Connecticut; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Marvin will be truly missed! Rest In Peace, my brother.
