Mother Martha S. Butler was born on June 19, 1925 to the late Anna Singleton and Alex Singleton. She was called to rest on Tuesday, Novemeber 17, 2020 at Berkeley Roper Hospital in Summerville, South Carolina.
Mother Martha attended Central High School and Medical School with Dr. Lacey and Maude Callen where she became a mid-wife for many years. She delivered many babies over the years.
She was a member of Greeland Baptist Church, for over 40 years where she served faithfully. She was on the Missionary Board, a member of the choir, a Sunday School teacher and the church secretary. She was the first Mother of the Mother's Board and was known as the Mother of the Church. Mother Martha was also a member of the Home Charity Lodge #21.
At the Age of 21, Mother Martha united in holy matrimony to the late Nehemiah Butler. To this union three children were born. Naomi Green, Edward Butler and Jesse Butler, all preceding her in death.
During her time of illness, her caretakers included Hospice and her very special grandchildren: Lollie Mae Maybank, Cynthia Green, Delores White and Martha Waring.
Martha "Sis. Lallie" Singleton Butler leaves to cherish her memories: a twin sister, Mary Pinckney; one adopted son, Joe Domeka "Janette" Green: eighteen grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grands, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
