Lillie Mae Taste was born November 14, 1938 to the late Mary Lee Gathers, in Cross, South Carolina. She was lovingly raised in a nurturing home by the late Hector and Nellie Jefferson, after her mother's untimely passing. Affectionately known as Bernice, she was cherished by all who knew her for her warmth, strength, generosity, and gentle spirit.
On November 15, 1956, she was united in holy matrimony to James Taste, Jr. Their loving union spanned more than 66 years, until his passing. from this marriage, seven sons were born, and family remained the center of her life.
Lillie Mae was devoted caregiver, serving faithfully for nearly a decade as a nurse's assistant. She was also a dedicated and faithful member of Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ in Holly Hill, South Carolina, where she worshipped and served with joy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and five sons: Jerome, Anthony, Eric, Nathaniel, and Johnny Lee.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two sons, Benjamin (Lula Mae) and Joseph; daughters-in-law, Rosa Mae, Lucille, and Leatha; Sister, Nellie Haskell; brother, Benjamin "Earl" Smalls; sisters-in-law, Estelle (Paul) Brow, Ella Mae Frazier, Lorrine Grissett, Henrietta Reese, Carrie B. Taiste, Mae Taste; aunt, Wilhemenia Gavin; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
