Leroy Nelson, Sr.

Mr. Leroy “Buddy” Nelson, Sr., was born March 12, 1931 to the late Annie Nelson and Queen Brown. He  received his education at Holly Hill Rosenwald School in Holly Hill , SC.

At an early age, he joined and became a member of Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Holly Hill.

In 1950, he was united in marriage to the late Jessie L. Wilson. To this union seven beautiful children were born.

After serving and being Honorably discharged in the United States Army in 1954, he later worked and retired after 30 years at the United States Postal Service, in Philadelphia, PA.

“Buddy”, as he was affectionately known, lived in Philadelphia, PA for many years before returning home to  South Carolina due to his failing health and to be with his loving children.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Annie Nelson; his father: Queen Brown; siblings: Leon Brown, Eugene Brown, and his favorite sister Isabella Nelson.

Leroy leaves to mourn his sweet memories, his loving children: Luvenia Smith of Santee SC, Patricia Robinson of Summerville SC, Cynthia Fuller of Holly Hill SC, Richard Wright of New York, Leroy Nelson of Holly Hill SC, Sandra Fuller of Orangeburg SC, Yvonne Nelson of Columbia SC, and Sharon Nelson of Holly Hill SC; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; two very special friends/caregivers: Chasty Fogle and Shirley Willoughby, both of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
