Laverne White Obituary

Laverne was born in Vance, SC on January 18, 1961 to the late Van Oliver and the late Ella Frances Mallard.  She was preceded in death by her sisters Gwendolyn Wright and Annie Belle Jamison and her brothers Kelvin Oliver, Melvin Oliver and James Oliver.

Laverne was educated in the Vance school system and continued her education at Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC.

Laverne was very athletic, she loved to play sports, baseball being her favorite.  She played on the town’s team, Vance Panthers, for many years.  She was the pitcher and loved the fun of the game.

After college, Laverne decided she wanted to move to New Jersey to be closer to her older sisters.  In New Jersey is where she began her banking career of many years.  She also attended Jersey City Deliverance Temple where she became a member and a usher.

Laverne met Rafael White in 1999 and they were united in Holy Matrimony on February 24, 2001 for 21 years until her death.

Pop, a nickname she was lovingly given by her brother James, was the youngest of nine children and such a loving and caring person.  She was especially loving and caring to all  her nieces and nephews.  She expressed how proud she was of all of them.  She had a special bond with her eldest niece Frances to whom she helped raise.  Their relationship was more than just aunt and niece.  They were sisters, best friends and she sometimes played the role of mother.  Her presence will truly be missed, but having her wings makes this day bearable for all.  As we celebrate her life today we are especially grateful and thankful to our lord for giving us this Amazing soul to always cherish.

Laverne made her transition from her earthly home to her heavenly home on July 2, 2022.  She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Rafael White, step daughter; Malinabis White Rivera and two step children from a previous marriage; Nikima Stewart and Devon Stewart, (Harry Ganoway), three sisters; Dr. Rhuddene(Silas)Jamison, Adline Oliver Simmons and Loretha (Anthony) Stukes, three step sisters; Naomi(Robert)Hunter, Vivian(Tommy)Jones and Jackie(Isaiah)Jamison; two step brothers; Edwin (Sherea) Green and Leonard(Venetia)Green; Godson Larry Tequan Wright; Goddaughter Danika Guess and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her  dearly.
