Laverne Washington was born on November 7, 1957, in Vance, South Carolina to Louis Washington and Majorie Washington. She was raised in the household with 3 brothers, Leonard, Gregory (deceased), and Jerry Washington.
Laverne attended Seward Park High School on the lower east side of Manhattan and then continued her studies at Mercy College. Laverne worked for the Metropolitan Transit Authority for many years before she retired.
In 1989 she had her only son, Tarik Lamont Washington. Laverne loved music, especially Barry White. You would always hear Laverne dancing and singing. She also loved watching Westerns
and scary movies with her son. She was a great cook and always had her door open for family members. Laverne was known for her kind heart and love for others.
She is survived by her parents; two brothers, Leonard Washington and Jerry Washington (Kela); her son, Tarik (Geraldine); cousin raised in the home, Dr. Lena Green; her grandchildren, Nasir,
Tarik Jr., and Madison; two aunts, Queenie Hampton and Val Jean Tyson; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
