John Morant was born on August 2, 1952, in Holly Hill, SC, to the late Mr. Lonnie and Maggie Capers
Morant. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, the late Sonny and Ruth Hunt. John went to be with
the Lord on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
From an early age, John was a devoted member of Target A.M.E. Church. He graduated from Roberts
High School in 1972 and went on to work at various places, including Mr. Mears Holly Hill Furniture,
Randy Garrette’s Body Shop, Harvey Rhames Bean Shed, and Gifford Hill Cement Company. John had a
passion for games, music, cooking, dancing, and dressing sharply, often emulating his style icon, Steve
Harvey.
John shared a remarkable bond with his twin brother, Peter. The two spent countless hours laughing,
hanging out, and enjoying each other’s company (You would never see one without the other). Although
John never had children of his own, he embraced his nieces and nephews as if they were his own,
cherishing moments spent babysitting and supporting them. He fiercely protected them, ensuring they
were never harmed or spoken ill of.
A caring and generous spirit, John often reached out to family members to ensure they were well. He kept
his phone close by, always ready to answer their calls, and regularly checked in until he knew everyone
was okay. He especially looked forward to seeing his nieces and nephews during holidays and summer
breaks, eager for the chance to babysit them with his brother, Peter. If he hadn’t heard from their parents
about plans for the children to visit, he would pick up the phone to ask “When will you send .... down for
break”. Known for his selflessness, John often gave his all to support those he loved, striving to outdo his
brother, Peter, in generosity—even at the expense of his own needs.
