With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of John Dee Harper, a beloved individual to God, family, peers, and friends, who peacefully departed this life on February 19, 2025, at the age of 71.
John was a distinguished U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving with honor and pride in the Reconnaissance Battalion, where he dedicated his life to protecting his country and fellow citizens.
Born on June 18, 1953, in South Carolina, John enlisted in the Marine Corps at a young age, quickly establishing himself as a courageous and skilled member of the elite Recon forces. Throughout his service, he completed numerous deployments, exemplifying the values of duty, discipline, and selflessness that defined the Marine Corps. His bravery and commitment earned him the admiration and respect of all who served alongside him. After retiring from the military, John faced challenges that led to estrangement from his family.
However, in time, God blessed him with a new family through Pastors William and Shalanda Riley, who offered him both a job and the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through this connection, John accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, beginning a transformative journey. His change was remarkable to witness, and he became known as a quiet, selfless man who never sought recognition for his sacrifices or accomplishments. His deep belief in the importance of family, faith, and friendship, paired with his humility and integrity, left an indelible impact on everyone who knew him.
John will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of service, compassion, and unwavering commitment to others will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
