A TIME TO BE BORN, AND A TIME TO DIE.
Jessie James Vanish, Sr. entered into the world on July 10, 1937, to Mr. Lewis Vanish, Sr. and Mrs. Lucinda haynes Vanish, he departed this life on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Trident Medical Center. He is the second oldest of eight. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother; Queen I. Vanish and Thomas A. Vanish.
Jesse received his education in the Berkeley County Public School System. In 1955, he graduated from the Berkeley Training High School, Moncks Corner, SC. At an early age he confess Christ and joined Wesley Methodist Church.
In 1956 he relocated to Gary, Indiana where he began to worship at Greater St. James A.M.E. Church. He sang with the Gospel Choir, The Adult Ensemble, and served on the Steward and Trustee Boards. Upon returning to South Carolina he rejoined Wesley United Methodist Church were he served faithfully on the Senior Choir, Wesley Male Chorus, and attended Sunday School unti his death.
On July 24, 1965, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Miss Thelma Kelly.
He was employed by American Bridge and U.S. Steel and in 1984 he retired form the U.S. Steel. In 1985, he relocated to South Carolina and was employed by WESTVACO Cmpany, North Charleston, SC where he retired in 2002.
Jesse enjoyed meeting people and discussing history. He was an expert on family genealogy and our family's walking encyclopeida! Other interest of Jesse, as he enjoyed his independence, were taking care of his lawn, truck, bowling, crossword puzzles, bejeweled, solitaire, and word search. His favorite baseball team was the Dodgers.
Mr. Vanish will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years; Thelma K. Vanish, children; Jess (Rena) Vanish, Jr., Sheila Renee Vanish, and Daryl Anthony all of Mississippi; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; his siblings; Burnett (Ruth) Vanish and Lewis Vanish both of Moncks Corner, SC, Clark (Linda) Vanish of Carson, CA, Miriam V. (Quincy) Ham of Elyria, OH, and Gwendolyn V. (Robert) Williams of Jacksonville, Fla; siters-in-love; Verdell M. Vanish and martha Smith, both of Monks Corner, SC, Rev. Shirley (leonard) Coles, Maimi, Fla, Carol Kelly, Columbus, GA, andMarietta Kelly, North Charleston, SC; brother-in-love; Peter Kelly, Jr. and George Washington both of Moncks Corner; a special aunt; Roxcena Vanish of Hollywood, SC; aunts; Lillian, Ruby, and Willie Dell Vanish; and host of nieces, cousins, and friends.
