On January 17, 2025, Janet F. Boyd gained her Heavenly wings at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC. She was the daughter of the late Isiah (Sampson) Collier and Marie Gillard-Polite.
“Suk”, as she was affectionately called, attended Berkeley County Public Schools. At an early age, she joined Ebenezer Zion AME Church of Holly Hill, SC.
Janet was joined in Holy Matrimony to Samuel (Simmy) Boyd on December 20, 1960 in Brooklyn New York. They cherish 64 years of marriage and raised eleven children together.
Suk, loved flowers such as yellow mums and roses; she especially loved washing and drying clothes, she would wash clothes literally everyday. She enjoyed things like puzzles, fishing, cooking, and watching Jerry Springer. Her famous saying to her husband was, “Don’t Tell Me What To Do”! She was a very strong willed and determined lady with great memories.
She was preceded in death by her children: Gloria Gillard, James Allen Gillard, and Tommie Lee Boyd; a brother: Norman Polite; and a granddaughter: Odessa Amelia Boyd-Banks.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her beautiful memories: a devoted & loving husband: Samuel boyd; two daughters: Lavina and Irmenia Boyd of Ridgeville, SC; seven sons: Kenneth G. Gillard of Charleston, SC, Naaman Gaddist of Florida, Robert Lee Boyd of Georgia, Ervin L. Boyd, Samuel F. Boyd and Terry Boyd all of Ridgeville, SC; Terry K. Boyd of Columbia, SC; two devoted grandsons of the home: Sedrick S. Boyd and Jahon Boyd-Tilley; one sister: Rosa Lee Holback-Taylor Johnson of Ridgeville, SC; two sisters-in-law: Carrie Brown and Laura Boyd of Ridgeville, SC; twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-four great grandchildren; three great-great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
