James Morton Obituary

His Life…. 1964~2026

With profound sadness and unwavering faith in God’s promises, we celebrate the life and legacy of James Michael Morton, who was called home to be with the Lord on June 2, 2026. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and community, we find comfort in knowing that he is now resting peacefully in the presence of his Saviour.

James was born on November 13, 1964 in Charleston, South Carolina, to Anna M. Morton and the late George Morton. From an early age he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church, James demonstrated a caring spirit and a deep faith that would remain the cornerstone of his life.

He was a proud graduate of R.B. Stall High. Determined to continue his education James attended the College of Charleston and The Medical University of South Carolina where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Administration. His educational achievements reflected his dedication to personal growth.

James began his career at Charleston Memorial and Naval Hospital before dedicating more than 20 years of service at UNC Health Southeastern Hospital in Lumberton, North Carolina where he held a position in management. He was passionate about his work and took great pride in serving others throughout his healthcare profession, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues.

James was a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., and he carried the principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship and service throughout his life.

James had a special place in his heart for the elderly, whether providing transportation, running errands or simply offering companionship, his dedication to helping seniors left a lasting impact and will be remembered by all whose lives he touched.

James was preceded in death by loved ones who welcomed him into eternal glory, maternal grandparents: Leola Codes Haynes and Willie “Bubba John” Haynes; paternal grandparents: Sarah Samuels Morton and George Morton; and his father George Morton.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories , his loving mother: Anna M Morton; his devoted brother: Darrell “Tom” Morton ( Shaleshia); loving sisters: Janet Morton (Antonio) and Joanne Morton; his cherished nieces: Janell Morton,  colliette Raysor, and Jade Gardner; his beloved nephews: Jamaal Morton, Darrell “TJ” Morton,  Malik Morton and Marvin Ervin; his adored great- nieces: Londynn Morton, Lael Morton, Laurhianna Morton, Bre’elle Wilson, and Graylynn Ervin; his treasured great- nephew: Nolan Thompson;  his loving aunts: Jeanette Haynes, Norma Jean Daniels and Doris Haynes; his uncle: Deacon Ricky Haynes; his godmother: Delores “Babe” Gethers of Manhattan, NY; his godchildren, host of cousins, extended family members and dear friends. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we rejoice knowing that James has completed his earthly journey and received his heavenly rewards. His life was a testament to faith, service, love and devotion to God. The memories he leaves behind and lives he touched will continue to be a blessing for generations to come.
