James Johnson, the son of the Late Fred and Queen Ester (Garris) Johnson was born on Wednesday, November 20, 1946 in Berkeley County, SC. He was called home from labor to rest on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.
James was educated in the public school system of Berkeley County, South Carolina.
As a child and young adult, James grew up in the Calvary Church of God in Christ, Goose Creek, SC along with his family.
James met the love of his life Miss Sibbie Ann Smalls. They married on March 18, 1967, and to this union they were blessed with one son, Jason Johnson. After marrying, James and Sibbie decided to venture out of South Carolina and moved to "The Big Apple" New York. While living in New York, James found employment at New York Telephone where he worked for many years.
Upon moving back to South Carolina in 1978, James job transferred him to Bellsouth where he continued to work. After his career at Bellsouth, James began working in the construction industry. He was employed by his brother in the Family Construction Business, until his demise.
James was known to be a quiet, humble and mild-mannered man. You probably never seen him angry with anyone. He loved his closed knit family. His grands and great grans were the joy of his life. James had many hobbies. He loved fishing, football, cooking, Old Skool music and he loved to dance.
James was loved by all who knew him and he will truly be missed. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Fred Johnson, Queen Ester Johnson-Mitchell and step-father Jessie Mitchell, Sr; one brother: Fred Johnson, Jr., one sister: Margie Wright.
James leaves to cherish his memory his unconditional loving wife: Mrs. Sibbie Ann Johnson; one son: Jason Jerome Johnson, Sr. of Gainesville, GA; one daughter: Kimberly Johnson, of Bronx, New York; four grandsons: Joshua (Maria) Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, both of Gainesville, GA, Alexander James (Aylce) Johnson of Denver, CO, Jason, Jerome Johnson, Jr. of Decatur, GA; one granddaughter: Victoria Johnson; three great-grands: Jacob Johnson, Evvie Johnson, Ada Capri Johnson; his siblings: Paul Eugene Johnson of Bamberg, SC, Dorothy Mae Footman of N. Charleston, SC, Leon (Ann) Johnson of Summerville, SC, Sonia Johnson Lee of Washington, DC, Perry Lee Johnson of Goose Creek, SC, Michelle Kennedy of Washington, DC, Jessie (Wanda) Mitchell, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; six brothers-in-law: William (Alice) Smalls of Bronx, NY, George Smalls of Moncks Corner, SC, Jacob (Vernial) Smalls of Moncks Corner, SC, Richmond (Virginia) Smalls of New York, NY, Edward (Peggy) Smalls of New York, NY, Lockwood (Mary) Smalls of Moncks Corner, SC; one uncle: Bishop Johnie James Johnson; two aunts: Carrie Mae Johnson, Annabel Johnson, all of Goose Creek, SC; Bonus family members: Tajuana Foy Johnson, Cherita (Conrad) McPherson, Cameron Bush, Vivian Blackwell Drake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends
