His Life….HENRY “DICK” JOHNSON, the son of the late Willie Johnson and Essie Hilliard Johnson, was born July 23, 1932 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. In addition to his parents, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
God looked down upon this man who was loved by so many and called him to eternal rest on Monday, October11, 2021 in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
On October 15, 1955, Henry was united in holy matrimony to Sandra “Ella Mae” Jamison. Their union was blessed with three children.
Henry was an easy going man that loved the Lord and his family. To his wife, he was a dedicated spouse. He enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood and love for the outdoors, gardening and horses.
As a member of Rock Hill A.M.E. Church, he was one of the church “Fathers” and Sunday school attendee until prohibited by his health.
The love, stories, and fond memories will always be cherished by his family. His sons: Henry Johnson, Jr. (LaSonya) and Johnny Elmore of Vance, SC; daughters: Cheryl Johnson Benjamin (John H. Benjamin, Jr.) of Columbia, SC and Betty Johnson-Pringle (George) of Orangeburg, SC; brother: Matthew “Tony” Johnson of Santee, SC; sister-in-laws: Lorraine Fogle of Washington, DC; Lois Jamison of Baltimore, MD, and Debbie Johnson of Brooklyn, NY; eight grandchildren: Geneva McCants (Jerome) of Hampton, GA, George Broughton of Atlanta, GA, Charlena Nicole Hall and Sandrea LaShay Hall of Columbia, SC, Brienne Williams, Kimani Williams, Elijah Williams, and Ka’Leah Johnson of Vance, SC: four great- grandchildren: Doryan Gabriel Robinson, Jayveon Jerome James and Hunter Stewart Smith of Columbia, SC; Kalah McCants of Hampton, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; special neighbors, Aswanda Hill and Master Benjamin Hill of Vance, SC.
