Harry McKune Obituary

Harry Edward McKune was born on November 1, 1948 to the late George “Jack” McKune Sr. and Daisy Lullar McKune. He peacefully departed this life on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at his home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Harry accepted Christ into his life at an early age and was a member of Greater Target AME Church.

He grew up in Holly Hill and was a graduate of Roberts High School Class of 1968. After High School he joined the United Stated Army, where he served two terms in Vietnam. He always talked about his war stories, he loved to reminisce about his war experience, working as a mechanic on helicoptors, and his Army buddies as he called them.

On February 18, 1970, Harry joined in matrimony to his high school sweetheart, Lillie Mae Oliver of 55 years. He would always jokingly add the two years they dated to the total years of marriage.

Throughout the years after moving to Brooklyn, N.Y, Harry worked for Astro Glass and Jones Meat Trucking Company. He became owner-operator for years before returning back to his roots of Holly Hill in 1995.

Harry loved his family very deeply. He became a friend to everyone he met. Harry has always been humble, hardworking, dedicated, loyal, comical, and laidback. He enjoyed hitting the dance floor with his daughters at any given time. He especially loved his daughters, they were his pride and joy. It was nothing he wouldn’t do for his wife , children, and grands.

He was preceded in death by one sister: Mamie L. Shaw; two brothers: Howard Benjamin and George McKune Jr.; He was also preceded in death by his only granddaughter Erica McKune, who he affectionately called “babygirl”.

Harry leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and loving wife of 55 years: Necy Lillie M. Oliver McKune; daughters: Daisy “Dlecy” McKune and Heather Renee McKune both of Holly Hill, S.C; three grandsons: Erik Tayvon McKune of Holly Hill, Amon Roshawn Washington of Santee, S.C., and Prescott Kingsley of Holly Hill, SC; one great-grandson: Karson Kayvon McKune of Orangeburg, SC; two sisters: Adele McKune and Jackie Mae McKune both of Holly Hill, SC; one sister-in-law: Sondra McKune of North, S.C.; one brother-in-law: Jue Breaker, of Santee S.C.; one godson whom he adored: Moses Geathers of Holly Hill, S.C.; three dedicated bestfriends: John E. Mason (Evelyn) of Cape Coral, FL, James “Scoopan” Summerson of Columbia S.C and James Williams of Holly Hill, S.C,; and a host of cousin, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
