Gloria Jeanette Maxey Nobles, was born in Charleston on April 18, 1940 to the late Jesse L. and Beatrice Maxey, Sr.
She graduated from Bonds Wilson High School and relocated to New York; where she attended business college and started her career as a Token Clerk for M.T. A.
Gloria was united in Holy Matrimony to Sherman Nobles. In spite, of all her travels, her proudest moments in life were the birth of her two sons: Darryl L. and Monty Nobles along with her two grandchildren: Janell and Jonathan Nobles, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.
She was a member of St. Albans Congregational Church in Jamaica Queens. She was a member of the choir and the prison ministry. Gloria was a true prayer warrior and was the epitome of a true Christian. People gravitated to her for prayers all the time. She also loved playing the piano, singing, basketball and WWE. Gloria was well loved and she loved people. She especially loved her family and friends. Her favorite song was “He’s an On Time God”!
While living in New York, Gloria became the founder and formed an organization called QSAC for handicap children. Gloria loved travelling, so she sponsored trips all over the United States. She was also a part of the South Carolina Club, her and Sherman loved to travel, some of their memorable places were Alabama, Jamaica, Canada, California, Las Vegas, and Grand Canyon, just to name a few. They truly enjoyed the trip they took to Pennsylvania where they visited the Dutch people.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jesse L. and Beatrice Maxey, Sr.; siblings: Edward, Wilson, Willie, Isiah, Matthew, Jesse, Jr. and Norman E. Maxey.
Gloria was summons to be with the Lord on August 25, 2022 and leaves behind to cherish her sweet memories: her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Sherman Nobles, Sr.: her son: Monty Nobles; her two loving grandchildren: Janell and Jonathan Nobles; siblings: Betty M. McKelvey, Frank (Vivian) Maxey, Charles Maxey, Sr., Rose M. Page, Anna (Harry) Montgomery, and Jacob L. (Betty Ann) Maxey, I.; one brother-in-love: Robert (May) Nobles; sister-in-love: Marie; and a special goddaughter: Dr. LaShay “Nikki” M. Austin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless other family members and friends who will deeply miss her and will keep her in their hearts.
