On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Franklin Gilliard, Sr. was called home to be with the
Lord at his residence in Eutawville, SC. He was born on December 2, 1949, in Holly Hill,
SC, to the late Samuel and Mattie Mae Gilliard.
Franklin was a proud graduate of Roberts High School in Holly Hill, SC, and a devoted
member of Rockhill AME Church.
For many years, he worked at Sanders Brothers Construction Co., where he was known
for his strong work ethic and dedication. Outside of his professional life, Franklin found
great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, hunting, and hosting backyard
cookouts with his family and friends. Franklin also took immense pride in supporting his
son, watching him play basketball and cheering him on from the sidelines.
A kind and generous soul, Franklin was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in
need. Despite struggling with health challenges in his later years, he remained in high
spirits, never complaining and always showing a positive attitude.
Franklin’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his beloved family. He is survived by his
loving wife, Hannah M. Gilliard; daughters Yolanda White and Vanessa Chung
(Jevaughn); sons Franklin C. Gilliard and Lionel T. Gilliard; and his cherished
grandchildren: Lamar Gilliard Jr., Deontae White, Shadai White, Lionel Gilliard Jr.,
Emberly Gilliard, Narissa Gilliard, Naleesha Gilliard, Nyla Gilliard, Ka’mai Gilliard, Ta’mia
Gilliard, and Chenille Gilliard.
He is also survived by his devoted sister, Mary Bradley (Hayes), brothers Sammie Gilliard
(Jannie), Willie T. Gilliard (Helen), and Robert Gilliard, along with a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Franklin will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever be
cherished by those who loved him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
