Evangelist Henrietta Lawrence Obituary

Evangelist Henrietta Davis Lawrence was born on October 25, 1942, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, to George and Maggie Davis. From a young age, her life was filled with faith, service, and devotion. In 1976, Henrietta felt God’s call and was led to Salvation and Deliverance Church at 951 Intervale Avenue in the Bronx, New York, where she found her spiritual home. It was here that she came to know her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, under the ministry of the late Apostle William Brown. In 1982, Evangelist Lawrence answered the call to preach the Gospel. Isaiah 61:1 became a verse she lived by: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.” Ordained and licensed by Apostle William Brown, she stepped into her role as a true prophet of God, sharing His word with unwavering passion and conviction. For over 50 years, Evangelist Lawrence was a cornerstone at Salvation and Deliverance Worldwide Ministries. As a devoted member, she served in various roles with grace and humility. She was a devotional leader, counselor, and prayer warrior, and her voice graced the choir. Her love for ministry extended into education, where she nurtured young minds at Mother Goose Preschool as both a teacher and administrator. She continued to share her love of learning with the New York City Public Schools, earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education. Further deepening her commitment to faith, Evangelist Lawrence graduated from Saint Paul’s Bible Institute with a Doctorate in Religious Education, a Master’s in Religious Education, and an Associate’s in Religious Studies. In 2013, she received a certificate of chaplaincy from Reverend Crespo, President of United Faith and Hope. Throughout her life, Evangelist Lawrence followed the Lord with a heart full of love and humility. She carried the Gospel across the United States and the Caribbean, preaching in Jamaica, Haiti, and the West Indies, and providing food and clothing to those in need. Her ministry touched countless lives, as she volunteered at Riker’s Island Prison, Harlem and Bellevue Hospitals, Franklin Avenue Women’s Shelter, and nursing homes across New York. She held positions of leadership, including founding and presiding over the Evangelistic Team and serving as an instructor at Saint Paul’s Bible Institute. Evangelist Lawrence was not only a spiritual leader but a nurturing soul who embraced everyone she met with kindness and love. Known for her catchphrases, “What’s in your basket?” and “What kind of tree are you?” she reminded all those in her presence to reflect on their faith and lives. Her legacy lives on in her sons, Asbury Davis and Gary Lawrence, her grandchildren Phillip, Tashema, Matthew, and Brittany, her siblings John Henry, Louise, Marshall, Sadie, Annie, and Ruth, as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless others who were blessed to know her. Evangelist Henrietta Davis Lawrence served her Lord diligently until her final days. Her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, and boundless love for the Gospel have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those she touched.
