Ernest Vogt III Obituary

Mr. Ernest Pierre Vogt III, husband of Connie Cecelia Vogt, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, South Carolina. Born on July 6, 1959 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Ernest II and Thelma Vogt.

Pierre attended the public schools of Orangeburg County and graduated from Holly Hill Roberts High School, Holly Hill, South Carolina in 1978. His desire for learning and professional development propelled him to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Morris College, Sumter, South Carolina in 1982. He furthered his studies at the University of Miami, Miami, Florida, pursing the Master of Science Degree in Urban Development to gain a deeper insight of the development and infrastructure of Civil Engineering.

Pierre served in the United States Navy as Yeoman (Secretary to the Captain). After his naval service he was employed for more than three decades as a Civil Engineer until his health failed.

Pierre was a devoted husband, father and grandfather with high values of family. At a young age he was baptized and joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Vance, South Carolina. In 1980, during the spring semester of his sophomore year of undergraduate college, Pierre was initiated into the Mighty Epsilon Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is affectionately known as “SILKY SMOOTH”, by all of his Fraternity brothers and other college friends.

Pierre was preceded in death by his daughters: Ernika VaShaun Vogt of Greenville, South Carolina and Estiny Nicole Vogt of Charleston, South Carolina; one son: Everett Quran Vogt of Charleston, South Carolina; and one brother: Barry Vogt of Eutawville, South Carolina.

Precious memories will be shared by his loving wife and caregiver, Connie of 39 years, loving children E. Pierre Vogt IV, Engrid C. Vogt and Dr. Emmitt B. Vogt all of Greenville, South Carolina; Grandchildren: Estiny Vogt, Michael Allen III, Jh’Kese Vogt, Kassidi Grant, Ja’Kyus Vogt, Khloe Grant, Emir and Emyne Vogt all of Greenville, South Carolina; Sisters: Annie (Daniel) Vogt-Clark, Maxine Bookhart and Elizabeth Lambright of Eutawville, South Carolina, Evelyn Reed of Greenville, South Carolina, Beverlyn Guess of Vance, South Carolina, Bertha Vogt of Hinesville, Georgia, and Mary (Alton) Haney of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
