Elsie M. Williams was born on November 3, 1938, in Sumter, South Carolina, to the late Omega and Carl Davis. On October 18, 2025, at 2:52 p.m., our Lord and Savior called Elsie home to His eternal kingdom.
Elsie worked faithfully as a retail manager at Bon-Worth for 20 years, continuing to serve with dedication until the company’s final day of business. She was passionate about her work and found joy in connecting with others. Elsie loved talking on the phone with the warm souls she called family and friends. She enjoyed watching Lifetime movies, reading her newspaper in the early morning hours, and sipping her favorite drink, black coffee. One of Elsie’s favorite sayings was, “You better save for a rainy day.” She was known for her strong work ethic, resilience, and unwavering love for her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was the heart and foundation of her family; she always made a way out of no way. Those who knew Elsie will remember her deep affection for her loved ones, she made it known “Jamie was her heart,” and Christian, known as “Krissy,” was her baby. She loved being surrounded by smiling faces and warm hearts. Elsie also adored her pets; she lovingly cared for a family of cats, feeding them morning and night, and enjoyed the company of her dogs. And who could forget her “zero-turn”? Elsie took great pride in maintaining her yard and loved cutting her own grass. Her love, strength, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn Williams, her grandson, Marion Glenn-Neal Jr., James Rourk, and a host of siblings. Mrs. Elsie leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
She is survived by her two daughters Wanda-Kay and Jamie Gilliard, devoted sister, Hazel Conner; her grandchildren, Rodrick Rourk, Christian Rourk, and Raphell “J” Smalls; and her great-grandchildren, Kameron, Kason, Ka’Myia, Kensley, Alaya, Jace, Uni, and Patience. She is remembered fondly by a host of nieces and nephews, including special nieces Theresa Hickman, Melissa Patterson, and Joy Shuler; her special adopted grandchildren, Latonya Sumpter, Ladonna, Jakala, and Jeremy; and her dear friend, Jimmy Marlow.
