Edward Allen, Sr.

Edward Allen, son of the late Mr. Edward Allen Sr. and the lovely Mrs. Julia (Johnson) Allen was the sixth child of eight siblings, born on  June 5, 1950 in Coconut Grove, Florida. No doubt he was definitely blessed, cared for, and loved with six sisters to help their mother keep him in check. He was  called  Ed by all close to him.

Ed received his education in the Dade County Public School System. He served twenty– two months in The United States Army and did not have to be deployed to war in a foreign country. This gave him great joy because he still received an honorable discharge without going to war. Little did he knew that after separation from the military, that he would be working for Miami Dade County.

He met and married Ms. Carolyn Denise Sumpter in April of 1993. To this union three sons were born. Edward enjoyed helping people; hard work with long hours was just a labor of love. After 39 years he was blessed to see an early retirement at a good age, and relocated his family to Holly Hill, South Carolina.

On Saturday May 11, 2019, some time after noon that day he answered the call to come home .

 Five of Ed’s sisters (Betty, Ollie Jean, Mae Lois, Vera & Vergeree) preceded him in death, as well as a son (Edward, Jr.)  and a daughter (Sabrina Albert).

Left to cherish his legacy and fond memories: A devoted wife, Mrs. Caroline Allen; three sons: Kevin Allen, Khalil Allen, & Kamari Allen, of Holly Hill SC; a daughter: Keena ( Nathaniel ) Berry of Miami Florida. Four stepchildren: Carlethia Sumpter, Ronald Beasley, Robert Beasley, Jr., & Raymen Sumpter of Holly Hill, SC; three  sisters: Lillie Wright, Bertha Ward, & Ethel Allen of Miami Florida; a very special nephew: Javondre Robinson;  a special niece: Ms. Tiana Sumpter; three brother-in-laws: Lonnie (Barbra) Sumpter of Lake City, Florida, Orenthal Adams and Gregory ( Stephanie ) Adams of Miami, Florida; and one dear sister-in-law: Geraldine Joiner of Miami Florida. Ed was also blessed with grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews , and a host of cousins and friends. To many to name one by one.
