Curtis James, Jr.

Mr. Curtis James Jr. departed this life on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. He was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina on March 8,1949, to the late Curtis and Georgia James.
At an early age, Curtis developed a relationship with God and joined the Greater Target A.M.E. Church in Holly Hill, South  Carolina.

He attended Orangeburg County public schools and went on to graduate from Roberts High School. He studied brick masonry at Denmark Technical College, where he received an associates degree. Additionally, he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After working at Georgia-Pacific Fiberboard Company for more than 30 years, Curtis retired. 

He was united in holy marriage with the late Virgie Lee Morant on August 22, 1971. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Dedra and Alonzo. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Martha Smith and Diane Jamison, and brothers, Marion James and Melvin James. 

Curtis adored his children and grandkids, and he always wanted to make them happy. All sports were enjoyed by Curtis. He spent several years coaching baseball as a volunteer with the
Holly Hill Astros in the Dixie Youth League. He also loved cars. He would buy vehicles that he would just keep in the garage and use for special occasions.

Curtis will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His fond memories will live on in the hearts of his daughter, Dedra Felder of Orangeburg, SC, his son, Alonzo (Laura) James of Holly Hill, SC; his grandsons, Samuel Felder, II, Darius James, Deion James and Zachary Felder; his brothers, Herman (Frances) Williams of Holly Hill, SC, Henry (Deloris) James of Orangeburg, SC, and Leroy (Valara) James of Harleyville, SC; his sisters, Marguerite (James) Harris of Holly Hill, SC and Sandra Mack of Orangeburg, SC; his brothers-law-in, Dr. Mack B. Morant of St. George, SC, Percy (Maxine) Morant of Columbia, SC; his sisters-in-law, Dr. Gloria (Irby) James of Holly Hill, SC, and Sharron (Daniel) Garland of Summerville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
