Mrs. Bethenia “Betty” Covington Gilmore was born on June 17, 1945, to the late Roosevelt and Odessa Covington in McColl South Carolina. Betty entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
“Betty” loved the Lord, she loved her church, she loved her family, and she loved her friends. She was faithful and worked hard to make sure that she raised her children up in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Betty had a special love for children and would give her last to make sure that their needs and the needs of others were met.
“Betty” was educated in the Marlboro County School District in Bennettsville, South Carolina. She met her husband, and her journey led her to Holly Hill, South Carolina where she started her family. She was preceded in death by her husband James Gilmore of Holly Hill, South Carolina, her parents Roosevelt and Odessa Covington of McColl, South Carolina, her brothers Henry Brown of Springfield, Massachusetts, Roosevelt Covington Jr., of Tatum, South Carolina; her sisters Hattie Mae McDuffie of Bronx, New York and Sarah Lee Eberhart of Springfield, Massachusetts.
“Betty” leaves to cherish two beautiful daughters, Betty Jean Gilmore of Atlanta Georgia and Tressa (Arthur) Evans of Savannah, Georgia; a loving son James
Gilmore Jr., of Holly Hill, South Carolina; a precious sister Rose Anna Hill of Holly Hill, South Carolina; four amazing grandchildren Chas Gilmore of Atlanta Georgia, Zoey Lowery of Savannah, Georgia, James Bryson Gilmore and Lauryn Gilmore, both of Holly Hill, South Carolina; an Honorary Daughter Tanisha Johnson Oduyemi of Monroe, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
