Arthur “Fred” Wigfall was born on April 4th, 1937 to the late Henry O. Wigfall and Martha Wigfall in Cross, SC. Arthur grew up in Cross, where he attended the Berkeley County schools and family churches. Later he migrated to New York City in 1957. While exploring the big city he met Florrie Mae Haskell in 1962, and joined in holy matrimony on April 6, 1963. From this union they had three children Elizabeth, Arthur Jr. and Rena.
While in New York Arthur (known to everyone as FRED) worked as a taxi driver, served as an auxiliary police officer and then opened his own business as a grocery store owner. Later, Fred decided to open his own mechanic shop in Brooklyn, NY. Here he took on the role as a father figure to many of the neighborhood kids, hiring them to work for him and even bringing them with him wherever he went. Fred retired in 2008 and relocated back to Cross where he cared for his late brother Lawrence “Bunk” Wigfall until he passed away.
Arthur Fred enjoyed spending time and helping with his grandchildren and great grands. He had stories for and about each one of them he loved creating.
