Mr. Archie Lee Barnes, Sr., departed this life on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Charlie Norwood Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia after an extended illness. He was born in Holly Hill, SC on July 7, 1932, to the late Quillie Barnes and Emma Mack.
Archie Lee was a member of Greater Target A.M.E. Church. He served as a Trustee until his health failed.
Archie Lee was educated in the public schools of Holly Hill, S.C. He was joined in holy matrimony to the late Lucille Clark. He also had one grandson that preceded him in death, Harry Dashawn Broughton.
Archie Lee leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Lottie (Carl) Barnes-Witherspoon of Holly Hill, SC; Emma (Larry) Bowman of Bridgeport, CT, Shirley (Harry) Broughton of Eutawville, SC; Archie Lee (Shirley) Barnes, Jr. of Harrison, TN; Patricia Waring of Rock Hill, SC; and Bernard Sweatman, Sr. of Columbia, SC; a niece and cousin reared in the home, Cheryl Denise Wigfall of Moncks Corner, SC; and Kelvin "Barry" Barnes of New Orleans, LA; his siblings, Romie (Margaret) Barnes of Holly Hill, SC; Jasper Barnes of Oakland, CA; and Cynthia (William) Rumph of Columbia, SC; his sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Gadson of Holly Hill, SC; Elise (Rev. Samuel) Palmer of Eutawville, SC; Edna Bradley-Clark of Holly Hill, SC; and Mae Liza Smith of Bronx, NY; brother-in-law, Fred Harris of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Cutrice (Elbert) Calhoun, Antonio (Lakisha) Bowman, Larry Adrian Bowman, Jamaal Barnes, Takera (Carroll) Johnson, Ashley Barnes-Mitchell, Dadrien Barnes, Brittany Broughton, Alexya Barnes, Erica Benjamin, Michael Summerson, Tamra Summerson, Bernard (Beatrice) Sweatman Jr., Latashia Sweatman, Keshia Sweatman, and Darius Sweatman; thirty-five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends
