Henry Cobbs, Sr. was born on October 7, 1930 in Holly Hill, SC. He was the son of the late Ed and Sadie Lollar Cobbs. On Monday, August 5, 2019, God called him to home to be with HIM. He passed away peacefully at Orangeburg Regional Hospital.
At the early age of 13, Henry left home and started working with the railroad company. His younger years, while living in New York City, he worked for Ajax as a welder and became a Former with his own crew to supervise. After returning home to Holly Hill, SC; he worked on road construction, the Town of Holly Hill, became the community plumber as well as taught his grandson Andrae to carry the torch as a plumber. He was also an avid reader. During his younger years, not only would he read the newspaper, he read 2-3 newspapers daily.
Mr. Cobbs, was a member of Lovely Hill Baptist Church for years in which he held many positions. He was a dedicated Sunday School participant, a member of the male chorus and mass choir, designated driver of the church van for decades to ensure members made it to church services and events. He took care all of the plumbing issues at the church. He checked the church grounds and building every morning and evening before retiring for the night.
He was preceded in death by his children: Carolyn Cobbs Parks, Jewel and Janice Cobbs; siblings: Julia (Dan) Macon, Ed Lee (Dorothy) Cobbs, Joseph (Betty Jean) Cobbs, Carlisle Cobbs, Fannie (John) White, Willie James Cobbs, Ed Cobbs and Sadie Wright.
Henry leaves to cherish his loving memories: Frances Cobbs; Children: Henry Cobbs, Jr., Vernon Cobbs, Pam Cobbs, Linsey Cobbs, Cynthia Cobbs, Dr. Shirley (Harry) Williford, and JoAnn (Nathaniel) Butler; one brother, Nathaniel (Willie Bell) Cobbs; and numerous grands, great-grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
