Glenford Parson Obituary

Mr. Glenford C. Parson, affectionately known to his friends as "Batman", was born to Hazel S. Parson-Starkes and the late Murrary Parson on July 5, 1952 in Ridgeville, SC.

As a young boy, Glen attended Clay Hill Elementary School. He graduated from Jenkins Hill High School in 1970. Upon graduation, he attended Breckinridge Job Corps Center in Morganfield, KY and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. Glen's service to our country began at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. Following a tour of duty in Thailand, he was stationed at McGuire AFB, Wrightstown, NJ until his honorable discharge.

Glen was employed as a Security Guard at Charleston Naval Shipyard for several years. After that job ended Glen followed his passion and went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. For him, being a CNA was more of a joy than a job!

His journey in life took him to various places, but it was in Detroit, MI that he found the contentment he sought. Subsequently, he made it his home. However, his children and grandchildren remained his pride and joy and by his greatest accomplishment!

Glen was a lover of people! He never knew a stranger because everybody he met quickly became his "family". Whenever he vacationed in Ridgeville, the entire length of his stay was spent visiting EVERYBODY he knew within a 100-mile radius. He was also a "comedian" in his own rite. No one could tell a joke or a story like Glen. He could make you laugh until tears were rolling down your face and your stomach was hurting!!

Glenford received his early religious training at Bethel A.M.E. Church Ridgeville, where he accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and became a member.

Mr. Glen Parson entered eternal rest on Monday, August 13, 2018 in Detroit, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Murray Parson and Herbert L. Starkes and two brothers, Alfred Reese and Murray A. Parson.

His loving memories will forever be cherished by his children, Mr. Jessie Roundtree of North Carolina, Ms. Tiffany Parson of Philadelphia, PA, Mrs. Shavanique Chunn (Marquel) of Columbia, SC, and  Miss Alexis Wilson of Columbia, SC; his loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Hazel P. Starkes; three caring sisters, Rev. Deborah P. Carter (the late Robert Jr.) of North Charleston, SC, Mrs. Edna P. Doctor (Jimmy) of Ridgeville, SC and Rev. Alice P. Wright (King) of Trio, SC; three devoted brothers, Mr. Ricky Pryor (Faye) of Summerville, SC, Mr. Ronald Starkes (Desiere) of Greenville, SC and Mr. Mark Parson (Kiki) of Ridgeville, SC; a special cousin, he loved as a brother, Mr. Christopher Jenkins (Shonda) of Summerville, SC; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as a multitude of friends.

Family are receiving friends at 138 Horseshoe Street, Ridgeville, SC 29472
