Essie Lee McKune, the daughter of the late Mr. Eugene "Rev" Goodwin and Mrs. Flossie Goodwin was born on September 8, 1949 in Orangeburg, SC.
Essie was reared and educated in the public schools of Holly Hill, SC. She received her Nursing Certification at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College in Orangeburg, SC. Essie worked for many years and retired as a nurse. She accepted Christ and joined Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where, over the years, she served as a choir member, usher, and missionary. She served faithfully until her health failed.
Essie entered into eternal rest on October 2, 2018 at her home in Vance, South Carolina after suffering from a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucky McKune, Jr; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene and Flossie Goodwin; and brother, Mr. Frank Goodwin.
Essie leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Lisa (Antonio) Dash of North, SC; one granddaughter, Andonesia (Rakeem) Pauling of Florence, Kentucky; and one great grandson, Rakeem Pauling, Jr; a very special friend of many years; six sisters, Mrs. Joann (Sammie Lee) Clark, Mrs. Eva Mae (Leon) Clark, Ms. Margarite Benjamin, Ms. Mary Ann Goodwin, Mrs. Catherine (John) Williams all of Vance, SC, Ms. Gessie Goodwin of Holly Hill, SC, and Mrs. Annie (Roy) Allen of Henderson, NC; three brothers, Robert Goodwin, Albert Goodwin, and Johnny Goodwin, all of of Vance, SC; one sister-in-law, Betty McKune of Miami, FL; two brother-in-laws, Dan McKune of Vance, SC, Isaac (Darlene) McKune of Miami, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving mailed condolences at 120 Hilliard Blvd, Vance, SC 29163.
